About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Natalie Smith, and I'm a first-year graduate student in the DSAN program.

I've lived in the DC area for seven years now, starting with getting my undergraduate degree at the George Washington University, where I double majored with a B.S. in Statistics and a B.S. in Political Science. Since graduating, I have spent the last three years working in the defense consulting space, where I've acted as a combination of data analyst, operations research analyst, software tester, project manager, consultant, and wargame designer (basically building structured "games" and simulations that mimic real life for clients to play and test new strategies to solve problems). While I have learned a lot so far in my professional experience, my goal in this program is to become a better programmer, learn more about different industries I might be interested in shifting over to, and overall gain the necessary skills to be a successful data scientist in the future.

My hobbies include exercise (going to the gym, pilates, and/or running), hiking, cooking, playing video games (mostly on my Nintendo Switch), reading, going to bars and restaurants, and, most recently, attempting to garden in my small apartment!
